A guilt free summer of fiction

A guilt free summer of fiction

I am an avid reader and will happily devour series of detective novels, thrillers or chick lit.  However, I often have that guilty voice on my shoulder telling me I should be reading more educational/work stuff.    So, while procrastinating over picking up that work book, I googled the benefits of fiction reading (with some additional help from Chat GPT).  Well reader, I was very pleasantly surprised by the results and almost immediately felt vindicated in my reading choices!  So below are some of the answers I found ..

I could go on – but I think these lists cover off most of my reading genres.  I will admit to being a little bit ‘wow’ after finding these justifications and benefits.   Of course, there are also the general benefits of reading that go across the different genres of fiction.  I think of reading as my own type of meditation.  I find it hard to sit still focusing on breath, but I can sit for hours reading a good book and giving my brain downtime to rest and escape.

As we enter summer – what better opportunity is there to sit outside with a book and just lose yourself for a while, guilt free.
