I’m writing this with torrential rain running down the windows. September is such a mixed month of beauty, rain, sun, cold, warmth. It allows you to bundle up on the sofa with a hot drink and then sends you outside in flip flops. I love this month, it feels full of both possibility, forward planning and also still the chance to kick back and enjoy some last lazing sessions of summer.
September like January can be a month of new plans and back to routines. I think September is a month to gently dip your toes into the new season. A bit like January resolutions (I think February is the resolution month (if you must) and January the dipping into and preparing) September is the prepping month for the next season. Prepping is, by its nature mindful, thoughtful, putting things in place. Plans hatched, trialling new things, setting gentle goals, getting some easy wins under the belt before October hits.
I love a list (in case you hadn’t noticed). A list helps me tremendously. Here are some ideas for a September list to help with the dipping and prepping.
Things you may still like to do in September – perhaps eeking out those often glorious September days. A way to prolong the holiday feel. Reading in the garden, wearing shorts again when the sun’s out, smelling the last scented summer plants… the list doesn’t have to be anything grand, just those small things that take you back to sunshine.
What new (or revisiting old) routines/stuff/goals might you like to restart. Start slowly – you don’t have to commit to a complete overhaul, or a 7 day a week new programme. Just the odd day here and there, dipping back. Make it sustainable and not impossible to achieve. Doing something is better than doing nothing.
What you would like to have done by December. A big of a bigger planning list here. Work goals, family goals, personal stuff to get started, sorted, completed. Perhaps restarting a membership (fitness, hobby).
